"Think
speed, think Burbank Speed" - Dave Akard 1978 |
|||
The Story: | |||
What started
in 1968 as a small machine shop in Southern California, Burbank Speed &
Machine is still running strong today, albeit a little bit bigger. It’s
current proprietor, Dave Akard took the business over in 1978 and has never
looked back. Dave’s expertise ranges from crewing on Alcohol Funny
cars to building and racing his own NHRA Super Gas Camaro. He has also built
and maintained several successful SS and K-series sprint boat engines and
built the power that gave Kevin Kierce of Swan Motorsports the 1999 360cid
sprint car championship at Ventura Raceway Park. Staying in the forefront
of racing technology has always been one of BSM’s goals and today
they’re forming strong bonds building modifieds for local short track
racers at Irwindale Speedway, 360cid-injected sprint car motors for USAC
and Ventura racers, and some big nitrous and blower motors to rocket the
PSCA’s Fastest Street Car competitors and their 3,400+ pound sleds
into the 7- and 8-second zone.
Burbank Speed & Machine can also use its 2,000hp Stuska engine dyno with DEPAC computer acquisition hardware to thoroughly test any combination before it goes out the door. BSM’s new engine dyno, combined with their impressive list of machines and specialized equipment, enables them to perform almost all operations in-house. That cuts down on time and money spent farming work out to other shops and improves the quality of the work that comes out of BSM. Whether you’re just looking for a quick valve job on those old cylinder heads or you need to have a complete engine machined, assembled, and dynoed, BSM has got you covered. |
